About

This embryonic mouse model was captured using High-Resolution Episcopic Microscopy, it is cut in half to show the detail within and allow for easy 3D printing. This model is a simple STL that can be printed with ease at varying scale for small or large demonstration.

Built with our free 3D Viewer application

The model was created using the STL Wizard provided in our free 3D Viewer application, where we reduced the overall mesh size, processed the dataset, filled holes and cross-sectioned it for detail. The steps below walk through the exact process, so you can build a similar print-ready model from your own HREM or image stack data.

How we created the model

Using the STL Wizard tool inside the free 3D Viewer, taking a raw image stack through to a clean, printable STL file.

  1. Load the 3D viewer application and click 'STL Wizard'

3D Viewer open dialog
  1. Input the voxel size and select a preset, start at 25%, select whether to have internal detail or not

STL maker setup
  1. Set the view to mask and adjust the window/level until you can see the majority of the image in black and white

Mouse heart cross section adjustment
  1. Build the model using the 'Build ROI Preview' button this will load ~20% of the volume around the current section

  1. If you want to cut away set the visual mode from mask to cutway preview and adjust accordingly, once happy click 'Buid Preview' again
